Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX, Bus or Taxi?
First Korea Trip · Updated September 21, 2026
Last fact-checked: September 21, 2026 · How we verify travel information
The best way from Incheon Airport to Seoul depends less on the fastest airport-to-city time and more on your final hotel location, luggage and arrival time. Take the AREX Express if Seoul Station is your destination, the AREX All-Stop Train for places such as Hongdae, an airport limousine bus when it gets you close to your hotel with fewer transfers, or a taxi when door-to-door travel matters more than price.
QUICK ANSWER
- Seoul Station: the AREX Express is the simplest fast option, taking about 43 minutes from T1 or 51 minutes from T2.
- Hongdae: take the AREX All-Stop Train directly to Hongik University Station instead of backtracking from Seoul Station.
- Myeongdong or a hotel near an airport-bus stop: compare the bus with AREX based on the final walk and number of transfers.
- Large luggage, children or a group: an airport bus or taxi can be easier than carrying bags through a transfer.
- Late-night arrival: check the current night-bus schedule first; if it does not match your arrival, use an official taxi stand.
| Option | Current fare / time | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX Express | ₩13,000; about 43 min from T1 / 51 min from T2 to Seoul Station | Seoul Station, simple nonstop ride | Only goes to Seoul Station |
| AREX All-Stop | Transportation-card fare to Seoul Station: ₩4,750 from T1 / ₩5,350 from T2 | Hongdae, budget travel, subway connections | More stops and regular metro-style seating |
| Airport limousine bus | Varies by route; 6015 is currently ₩17,000 for adults | Myeongdong and hotels near bus stops, heavy luggage | Road traffic can change travel time |
| Taxi | Metered fare; Seoul standard taxi base fare is ₩4,800, with applicable tolls and time-based surcharges | Door-to-door travel, families, groups, late arrivals | Usually the most expensive option |
Incheon Airport to Seoul: Choose by Your Hotel, Not Just Speed
Do not compare only the airport-to-city travel time. Compare the entire trip to your hotel. A train that reaches Seoul Station quickly may still require another subway ride, an elevator search and a walk with luggage. A bus that takes longer on the road may leave you much closer to your accommodation.
- Hotel near Seoul Station: prioritize the AREX Express.
- Hotel near Hongik University Station: prioritize the AREX All-Stop Train.
- Hotel near an airport-bus stop: compare the direct bus with the train-plus-transfer journey.
- Several large bags or limited mobility: reduce transfers, even if the first ride costs more.
- Arrival near or after normal rail service: plan a night bus or taxi before leaving home.
AREX Express vs All-Stop Train
AREX has two different services, and choosing the correct one matters. The Express Train runs nonstop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station with a separate reserved-seat ticket. The All-Stop Train works more like regular urban rail, stopping at stations such as Gimpo International Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University and Gongdeok before Seoul Station.
AREX Express: best when Seoul Station is the real destination
The current one-way adult fare is ₩13,000. Official Seoul transport information lists about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 minutes from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station, with departures generally every 20–40 minutes.
The Express is easy to understand after a long flight, but it is not automatically the best train for every part of Seoul. If your hotel is in Hongdae, for example, taking the Express to Seoul Station means passing your useful stop and then traveling back.
AREX All-Stop: cheaper and often better for Hongdae
According to the current AREX operator fare table, the adult transportation-card fare between Seoul Station and the airport is ₩4,750 for Terminal 1 and ₩5,350 for Terminal 2. The trip to Seoul Station is about 59 minutes from T1 or 66 minutes from T2 on typical services.
The All-Stop Train is particularly useful because you can get off before Seoul Station. For Hongdae, simply leave at Hongik University Station. If you will continue on Seoul public transport, a rechargeable card such as T-money is the easiest setup for many visitors. Read the T-money Card in Korea guide →
When an Airport Limousine Bus Is Easier
An airport limousine bus is often the better choice when it reduces the number of steps between baggage claim and your hotel. You load your suitcase into the bus luggage compartment, ride into Seoul and get off at the stop closest to your accommodation.
For example, the current 6015 route serves Myeongdong along with central areas such as Mapo, Gongdeok and Chungjeong-ro, and the operator currently lists the adult fare at ₩17,000. The operator also states that 6015 tickets must be purchased at the ticket office. Other airport-bus routes serve different parts of Seoul, so check the exact stop nearest your hotel rather than choosing by neighborhood name alone.
- Good choice: your hotel is a short walk from a bus stop.
- Good choice: you have a large suitcase and want to avoid subway transfers.
- Check first: the exact stop, current fare, boarding platform and timetable for your route.
- Main downside: traffic makes the arrival time less predictable than rail.
When a Taxi From Incheon Airport Makes Sense
A taxi is usually the most expensive of the main options, but it can be the easiest door-to-door choice for a family, a group splitting the fare, travelers with several large bags, or anyone arriving when public transport is inconvenient.
Incheon Airport currently lists the Seoul standard-taxi base fare at ₩4,800. The final trip price is metered and can include legitimate road tolls and time-based surcharges. Current Seoul taxi night surcharges are 20% from 22:00–23:00, 40% from 23:00–02:00 and 20% from 02:00–04:00.
One useful airport-specific rule: there is no boundary surcharge simply because the trip goes from Incheon Airport to Seoul. Incheon Airport is treated as a joint taxi operation area for Seoul and several nearby jurisdictions. Other valid charges, such as tolls and late-night surcharges, may still apply.
Use the designated taxi stands outside the terminals. Incheon Airport specifically warns travelers about illegal solicitation and overcharging by vehicles posing as taxis.
Best Option for Seoul Station, Hongdae, Myeongdong and Gangnam

Seoul Station
Start with the AREX Express. It is nonstop and built around this exact airport-to-station trip. The All-Stop Train is cheaper, so compare price against the roughly 15-minute difference in travel time.
Hongdae
Start with the AREX All-Stop Train. Hongik University Station is directly on the line. The Express does not stop there, so riding it to Seoul Station normally creates unnecessary backtracking.
Myeongdong
Compare an airport bus with AREX plus a final transfer. AREX does not stop at Myeongdong Station. If your accommodation is close to a 6015 stop, the bus can be easier with luggage. If your bags are light and your hotel is easy to reach from Seoul Station, rail can still work well.
Gangnam
Compare the airport bus, rail route and taxi based on the exact address. “Gangnam” covers a large area, including places such as Gangnam Station, COEX, Jamsil and Seocho. An airport bus that stops close to your hotel can beat a faster first train followed by a long cross-city transfer.

What to Do After Landing: Three Simple Boarding Workflows
AREX
- Leave the arrivals area and follow signs for Airport Railroad / AREX.
- Choose Express or All-Stop based on your destination.
- For the Express, buy the separate Express Train ticket. For the All-Stop Train, use a compatible transportation card or ticket.
- Confirm the platform and board the correct service.
- If you need the subway after AREX, check your transfer and final exit number before you arrive.
Airport limousine bus
- Find the airport bus ticketing and route information after arrivals.
- Confirm the bus number and the stop nearest your hotel.
- Buy the required ticket for your route and check the terminal-specific boarding platform. For 6015, the operator currently requires ticket-office purchase.
- Load large luggage as directed and keep any baggage claim tag you receive.
- Track your stop so you are ready to get off at the correct location.
Taxi
- Follow the airport signs for Taxi.
- Go to the designated stand for a Seoul-bound taxi.
- Show the driver your hotel name and full address, preferably in a map app or booking confirmation.
- Expect the official meter or applicable official fare system, plus legitimate tolls or surcharges where relevant.
Arriving Late at Incheon Airport
Plan late-night transport around the time you expect to leave the terminal, not the scheduled aircraft landing time. Immigration, baggage claim and customs can push your actual departure from the airport much later.
Incheon Airport currently lists several Seoul night-bus routes, including:
- N6000 toward Gangnam Express Bus Terminal
- N6002 toward Cheongnyangni via Hongdae and central Seoul
- N6701 toward Dongdaemun Design Plaza via Mapo and Seoul Station
- N6703 toward Gwangnaru via COEX and Jamsil
Current adult fares are ₩17,000 for N6000/N6002 and ₩18,000 for N6701/N6703. The T1 and T2 departure times differ, so always check the official schedule for your arrival date. If no bus fits your timing, use an official taxi stand.

Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2: Check Before You Follow a Route
Both AREX services and airport buses serve Incheon Airport, but boarding locations and times differ between Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Check the terminal shown on your flight information before following a guide or timetable.

If you end up at the wrong terminal, Incheon Airport operates a free terminal shuttle bus. The Airport Railroad is another option between T1 and T2, but that rail trip is paid: the airport currently lists about 6 minutes and ₩1,050.
5 Mistakes to Avoid on Your First Airport Transfer
- Taking the AREX Express automatically. It is excellent for Seoul Station but not for every neighborhood.
- Treating Seoul as one destination. Hongdae, Myeongdong, Gangnam and Seoul Station can require completely different final legs.
- Ignoring the final walk with luggage. A direct airport bus may be easier than two rail rides plus stairs, elevators and a long walk.
- Planning around landing time at night. Use the time you are likely to clear immigration and baggage claim.
- Following taxi solicitation inside the terminal. Use the designated taxi stands instead.
